Styles & Settings
Where to hang it, how to hang it, and specific uses:
It’s an ideal bed, and relaxation device. It’s an art piece. It’s an instant party, a natural gathering place for friends or a special guest. In fact, it’ll be hard to keep your friends out of it, if you show it to them.
There are several great locations for a Floating Bed. They include:
Indoors:
- main bedroom
- guest bedroom
- living room
- recreation room
- or any other place you like, since it can be thought of as a bed, as a piece of furniture, as a party mixer, or as an art object.
Outdoors:
- The yard, usually at a fixed location
- Travel/camping portable unit
a tree limb, or any beam or structure.
Otherwise a tripod / 4-pod can be used, or anything
that the top eye bolt or ring can be attached to.
All you need is a single structural point above the ground.
Hanging it is not hard, but we recommend hiring a professional carpenter. It usually takes about 3-8 hours, occasionally more or less time, depending on your chosen room.
We can provide a below-ceiling mounting ring plate to attach to your ceiling, joists, or available beam or structural member. If you have access to attic or room above, you may choose a mounting plate above the ceiling joists. We have instructions on many mounting options. Call or email for details.
Our large fixed tripod / 4-pod is great for indoor / outdoor use. This is made of 4”x4” lumber, and joined with the Top Connecting Bracket & other hardware we supply.
We also have a light weight telescoping Aluminum 4-pod, which is portable and can be used for a camping bed (if no tree is available). It collapses to only 6' 8" in length, and is less than 1' square. It can have a mosquito net and a tent cover. The Floating Bed with the tent cover looks something like a hanging teepee.
Floating Bed stylistic options.
- We make both 7' 4" and 8' diameter beds. The hoops have 2 hinged joints and 4 insert joints, for easy assembly, disassembly, and transport.
- If you have enough room, you'll want 8', unless you plan to use it in a smaller space sometimes.
- There are 2 hoop finish options. You may choose simple classic stainless steel, or we can add a fabric cover over the hoop tube (with foam padding underneath for cushioning).
- So if you like the brighter metal look, or anticipate mostly outdoor use, you may prefer stainless. If you want a warmer softer look, then we'll put the cover on it. We have several fabric styles to choose from, all Sunbrella indoor- outdoor fabric, rated for all-weather resistance.

Other customization options :
It can be made / adjusted for nearly any ceiling or hanging height. Taller height means a greater swing distance, if space is available.
If the room or space is small and there is scant wall clearance or swing distance available, you can get our adjustable elastic tether, to limit the range of motion.
